Cruelty-Free Makeup Brands | Why Choose Cruelty-Free Cosmetics?

We often hear this word, but it is not always clear (or correct) its use. Let’s find out what it means and why you should use cruelty-free Makeup brands.

If you care about animal welfare, maybe you’ve gone vegan, stopped wearing leather, or even just tried to be flexitarian. But there’s one sneaky place that animal-derived ingredients may be hiding: Your beauty products.

Here’s what you need to know about vegan and cruelty-free products:

– Vegan makeup describes makeup that hasn’t been formulated with any animal products or byproducts.

– Cruelty-free means that the product itself hasn’t been tested on animals, and that any raw materials used in making it weren’t tested on animals, either.

Right, cruelty-free makeup brands are safer for animals, but there’s more to know. Cruelty-Free Is better for you. Cruelty-free makeup products are often gentler and safer, not only because of a lack of animal by-products but also because they don’t include toxic chemicals. Our skin absorbs everything we feed it, so using items full of parabens, artificial fragrances, and harmful chemicals isn’t a healthy habit. Save the animals, and save your skin.

How Do I Find Cruelty-Free Makeup Brands?

The vegan trend is impacting more than just food, with a growing demand for natural beauty products and brands are catching on. While not too long ago, you would have been lucky to find any ethical beauty products, now there are plenty of sustainable and cruelty-free companies to choose from.

Unfortunately, companies do not currently need to disclose whether or not they test on animals. That means companies who practice earth loving ethics need to prove they are cruelty-free by applying special certifications.

Here are a few certifications to look for on labels of cruelty-free makeup cosmetics.

Leaping Bunny – Is the only internationally recognized certification for cruelty-free brands. It requires independent audits to verify that the cruelty-free claims are true. You can be sure that makeup and household products with this logo are keeping animals safe from harm.

Beauty Without Bunnies – This is PETA’s cruelty-free certification. Companies and brands sporting this logo are simply asked to make a written pledge that they do not conduct, commission, pay for, or allow any tests on animals for their ingredients, formulations, or finished products anywhere in the world and that they will never do so in the future.

Choose Cruelty-free (CCF) – As an independent, non-profit organization based in Australia, the bearers of this logo are required to sign a legally binding document stating that none of the brand’s products or ingredients are tested on animals.

Certified Vegan Logo – is a registered trademark, for products that do not contain animal products or byproducts and that have not been tested on animals.
